Opera Holland Park & KarmaBank (with the kind support of the Mosaic Rooms and St. Mary Abbott’s Church) are proud to present a new creative collaboration, integrating opera with poetry and testimony to tell the stories of women in today’s world – especially the lives disrupted by displacement.

KarmaBank & Opera Holland Park (led by Alice Bezant, Inspire) set up Music & Storytelling workshops, directed by TD Moyo, in a beautiful space at the Mosaic Rooms in Earl’s Court – a non-profit art gallery and bookshop dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary culture from the Arab world and beyond in London.

The Workshops are developed & directed by TD Moyo, Sonia Ben Santamaria, April Koyejo-Audiger, Helen Glavin & Andrew Standen-Raz, with a focus on healing & story-telling.  Thanks to cast members and the team at Opera Holland Park, women learn parts of arias from Carmen and original work by Helen Glavin, and participate in theatre exercises.

Film, spoken word poetry and documentary combine with the presentation and performance parts, with the filmed elements directed by Maya Sanbar.

The workshops culminate with a performance/presentation at 2pm, on 25th June 2022 at Opera Holland Park, followed by a short reception. Featuring performances from external artists, this unique performance/presentation will be a culmination of our outreach workshops, and a celebration of the safe creative space we have shared with these women.

Creative team includes Sonia Ben Santamaria, April Koyejo-Audiger, Rasheeda Page Muir, Maya Sanbar, Tol Christie, Helen Glavin, & Andrew Standen-Raz
