Description
Original art work by Sumayyah (Saudi Arabia).
60cm x 84cm.
Acrylic on Paper.
Seeking refuge has allowed Sumayyah the freedom to build on her creativity and live her life to the fullest – most recently studying at the Slade School of Fine Art.
“As a refugee artist, I find healing through my artwork. Most of my drawings express what I feel represented through other people. Leaving my country has given me the opportunity to have a choice and decide for myself how to live my life as I choose.”
Especially vital for an artist from a very conservative background. “Most women in my homeland, Saudi Arabia, are deprived of their basic human rights and are under the control of their male guardian.”
Sumayyah also takes her art off the page and is currently developing her skills in tattooing.
